What Finally Got Me Writing (Hint: It Wasn’t Confidence)
Fear of adding to the endless noise. Fear of seeming egocentric. Fear of imperfection.
And for what? I’m not going to be here forever.
But today, I’m writing anyway — because silence has cost me the chance to share something meaningful. The longer I hold back, the more I realize I might have thoughts worth sharing. Maybe they’ll matter to someone else.
I’ve always wanted my words to mean something: to help, inspire, or connect. But perfectionism — the idea that I couldn’t release anything less than flawless — held me back far too long. Now, I’m choosing authenticity over faultlessness. I’d like to believe that counts more.
Who am I?
My name’s Andrew, but feel free to call me Drew.
I study Cybersecurity at Franklin University, with a minor in Artificial Intelligence. I’m a senior officer in the Cybersecurity Club and recently took the reins of the Python Club, where I’m working to breathe new life into it with a focus on AI and Machine Learning.
But my life isn’t all clubs and coursework (despite feeling it is, at times).
I’ve logged thousands of hours in Kerbal Space Program and Space Engineers, lost in orbital mechanics and improbably doomed spacecraft. I write fiction, blending storytelling with tech, always seeking new ways to intertwine my passions.
Step outside, and you’ll find me gardening, kicking a soccer ball, elk hunting in Colorado with my dad, or blasting music at irresponsible volumes while attempting (and usually failing at) overly ambitious recipes. (Shoutout to the time I turned banana bread into banana pudding — please don’t ask.)
Why blog now?
Because authenticity — not polished perfection — is what resonates with me. I’ve spent enough time quietly scrolling through motivational posts on LinkedIn, feeling disconnected from the carefully curated world online.
This blog is different. It’s my space to think aloud, to share raw ideas, half-formed thoughts, failures, triumphs, and life’s messy complexity.
I’ll cover Cybersecurity, AI, Space exploration, creative writing, personal growth, and whatever else intersects these passions. I’m no guru, and I’ll never pretend to be. This is simply a space for my 2 a.m. thoughts to run wild.
If you’ve ever hesitated to share your voice, this space is for you. Why do you share your thoughts, or why do you hold them back? I’d love to hear from you.
Welcome to my tiny corner of the internet.
